Emergency Garage Door Repair in Utah

When your garage door fails at 10 PM on a Tuesday, when your car is trapped inside and you need to get to work, or when your door is stuck wide open in a snowstorm exposing your home to the elements — that is when you need a garage door company that actually answers the phone. Fair Fix Garage Doors provides emergency repair service across the Wasatch Front with response times as fast as 30 minutes in our priority zones. Call (385) 484-8951 now.

What Qualifies as a Garage Door Emergency

Not every garage door problem is an emergency, and we will always be honest with you about whether your situation warrants emergency-priority service or can wait until the next business day. Here is how we categorize urgency:

True emergencies (immediate dispatch):

  • Door stuck open and cannot be closed — your home is unsecured
  • Door fell and is blocking your vehicle inside (or outside) the garage
  • Door off track and at risk of falling
  • Broken spring with the door in the open position — safety risk
  • Vehicle impact damage leaving the door non-functional and the garage exposed
  • Door partially open and stuck, creating a security vulnerability overnight

Urgent but schedulable (same-day or next-morning service):

  • Broken spring with the door in the closed position — inconvenient but secure
  • Opener failure with the door manually closeable — you can use the emergency release to operate the door by hand
  • Noisy operation, grinding sounds, or minor alignment issues
  • Panel damage from hail or wind that does not affect door function

If you call and describe your situation, we will tell you honestly which category it falls into. We will never inflate urgency to justify a premium charge.

Response Times by Zone

Our response times depend on your location relative to our Lehi headquarters on Cedar Hollow Blvd. We have organized our service area into three response zones:

Priority Zone (30 to 60 minutes): Lehi, American Fork, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, Highland, Cedar Hills, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Orem, Vineyard, Alpine, Draper (south). These communities are within 15 miles of our base, and we can typically reach you within 30 to 60 minutes during service hours, or 45 to 75 minutes during evenings and weekends.

Standard Zone (60 to 90 minutes): Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork, Sandy, South Jordan, West Jordan, Herriman, Riverton, Bluffdale, Mapleton, Salem, Payson, Santaquin. These communities are within 15 to 30 miles and require 60 to 90 minutes response during service hours.

Extended Zone (90 to 120 minutes): Salt Lake City, Murray, Midvale, Cottonwood Heights, Holladay, Millcreek, Taylorsville, West Valley City, Magna, Kearns, Tooele, Grantsville, Heber City, Park City, Nephi, Mona. These areas are 30 or more miles from our base. Response times are 90 to 120 minutes, and for the most distant communities, next-morning service may be more practical depending on the time of your call.

These times are estimates, not guarantees. Traffic on I-15, weather conditions (especially winter storms on the Point of the Mountain), and current technician locations all affect actual arrival times. We will give you a realistic ETA when you call, and we will call you when we are en route.

Common Emergencies We Handle

Broken spring (door stuck). This is the most common emergency call. A torsion spring that breaks while the door is open leaves the full weight of the door unsupported — it cannot be closed safely without professional equipment. If the spring breaks while the door is closed, the door is extremely heavy to lift and the opener cannot move it. We carry springs on every truck and resolve most spring emergencies in 45 to 90 minutes on site.

Off-track door. A door that has left its tracks is dangerous to operate and often cannot be moved at all. Causes include broken cables, worn rollers, vehicle impact, or track obstruction. We diagnose the root cause, re-track the door, and repair the underlying issue in a single visit.

Door stuck open (won't close). This could be a broken spring, a snapped cable, a track obstruction, or an opener malfunction. Regardless of the cause, an open garage door is a security and weather exposure risk. We prioritize these calls because your home is vulnerable.

Opener failure. The motor dies, the logic board fails, the gear strips — and your door will not respond to the remote or wall button. If you can manually close the door using the emergency release, this is urgent but not a true emergency. If you cannot close the door, it becomes an emergency. Our opener repair service covers all brands.

Vehicle impact. Backing into your own garage door (or having someone else do it) is more common than most people think. The damage ranges from a dented panel to a completely destroyed door off its tracks. We assess the damage, determine whether the door can be repaired or needs replacement, and at minimum secure the opening so your home is protected until permanent repair is completed.

What to Do While Waiting for Our Technician

  1. Stay away from the door. Do not try to force it open, closed, or back on track. An off-track or imbalanced door can shift or fall without warning.
  2. Disconnect the opener. Pull the red emergency release cord to prevent accidental activation. If the door is stuck open, do not pull the release — it may cause the door to drop.
  3. Secure the opening if possible. If the door is stuck open and you need to leave, block the opening with your vehicle, lock the interior door to your home, and remove valuables from visible areas of the garage.
  4. Document the damage. Take photos from multiple angles. This documentation helps if you need to file an insurance claim (especially for vehicle impact or storm damage) and helps us prepare the right parts before arrival.
  5. Keep children and pets away. Establish a safe perimeter around the garage door area.

Evening and Weekend Availability

Garage door emergencies do not wait for business hours, and neither do we. Our emergency line is answered during extended hours, including evenings and weekends. When you call outside standard business hours:

  • A real person answers or returns your call within 15 minutes
  • We assess the urgency of your situation honestly
  • If immediate dispatch is warranted, a technician is dispatched to your location
  • If the situation can safely wait until morning, we will explain why and schedule a first-available appointment

Pricing Transparency for Emergency Service

We believe emergencies should not come with predatory pricing. Here is our commitment:

  • No inflated emergency markups. The parts cost the same whether we install them at 2 PM or 8 PM.
  • Transparent quoting before work begins. Even in an emergency, you receive a quote and approve it before we start the repair.
  • No trip fee for service completed. If we perform the repair, there is no separate trip or dispatch charge.
  • Honest assessment. If your emergency can be temporarily stabilized and the permanent repair scheduled during normal hours, we will tell you — even though it means less revenue for us. That is what fair means.

Emergency repairs are priced the same as their standard counterparts listed on our individual service pages. A spring replacement that costs $225 to $325 during a scheduled appointment costs the same during an emergency call.

When to Call 911 Instead of Us

There are rare situations where a garage door failure becomes a life-safety emergency that requires fire department or paramedic response, not a garage door technician:

  • A person is trapped under or inside a fallen door. Call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to lift the door.
  • Electrical sparks, burning smell, or smoke from the opener. Disconnect power to the garage at the breaker panel if safe to do so, and call 911 if there is any sign of fire.
  • Structural damage to the garage itself (collapsed header, leaning walls, foundation failure). This is a building emergency, not a door emergency.
  • Gas smell in the garage. If you smell natural gas and the garage door is stuck, leave the area immediately and call 911 and your gas utility.

For everything else — broken springs, off-track doors, opener failures, cable snaps, stuck doors — call us at (385) 484-8951. We are your neighbor, and we will be there.

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer same-day emergency service during business hours Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, plus evening and weekend availability for urgent situations. Most emergency repairs are completed within hours of your call. Call (385) 484-8951 to check current availability.

During regular business hours, emergency repairs are at standard rates with no additional fees. Evening and weekend appointments may include a modest after-hours service fee. We always quote the total cost before beginning any work so there are no surprises.

Response times depend on your location. Priority zone cities like Lehi, American Fork, and Saratoga Springs typically see arrival within 30 to 60 minutes. Standard zone cities average 60 to 90 minutes. Extended zone areas may take 90 minutes to 2 hours.

Any situation where your door cannot open or close safely qualifies as an emergency. This includes broken springs, snapped cables, off-track doors, a door stuck partially open creating a security risk, or opener failure when your car is trapped inside.

First, do not try to force the door open or closed. If the door is partially open, secure your garage with temporary measures like blocking the opening. Pull the emergency release cord to disconnect the opener. Keep children and pets away from the door. If a spring broke, do not stand near it.
